How Maui Slowed The Sun
2019 World Book Fest Day Folktales Alfresco – How Maui Slowed The Sun
Five BSHLMC students performed the New Zealand myth How Maui Slowed the Sun on Saturday 27th April 2019. This production took place on an outdoor stage at the World Book Festival Day at S.K.H. Holy Trinity Church Secondary School. It was the paramount part of a performance called Folktales Alfresco. The students braved the elements and performed wonderfully during an impending rainstorm.
This small yet dynamic drama troop was comprised of Wu Sin Yi Samy (2C), Siu Tsz Ching Hannah (2B), Chow Chong Hang Andy (2B) and Lim Ho Yin Jeff (2A) as well as Chan Cheuk Hin Oscar (1A). Samy expertly narrated the story expressing the meaning of the words through intonation, inflection and pitch. Meanwhile, the rest of the troop relied on their expressive body language and dramatic facial expressions to communicate with the audience.
These students unanimously agreed that they were proud of their combined efforts and of their final performance. The English Department are also extremely proud of their inaugural production and hope for more in the future.
